The Program

Camp will include 3 on-ice sessions (approx. 45min each) and 2-3 off-ice sessions (30min each). Our on-ice curriculum will focus on a variety of skills: power, edges, jumps & spins, turns, footwork, dance, choreography, etc. Sample off-ice curriculum may include stretching, Pilates, yoga and ballet classes (with certified instructors from the Metropolitan Ballet Academy).

The Schedule

Our regular camp program will run Monday, August 5-Friday, August 9 from 8:30 to 1:00 daily. Skaters will move from topic to topic throughout the day with their assigned group and leader.  Youth off and on-ice supervision is provided. Skate tying assistance can be requested although we encourage all skaters to tie their own skates.  Sample tentative schedule follows:

Grouping

Skaters will be divided based on a combination of their age and their skating ability.  At the onset of the first on-ice session, all skaters will be evaluated and placed into their age/skill-appropriate group. Depending on enrollment, we will strive to have three on-ice levels (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) so that all skaters can be both comfortable and challenged according to what they can handle and wish to learn.  Skaters will be moved up or back upon request throughout the week as long as the instructors and the skater are comfortable with the level change.

Our Facility

Wissahickon Skating Club was newly renovated in 2019 and has one state of the art ice surface, a very large upstairs lounge for off-ice conditioning, dance and recreational activities, a heated lunchroom and several heated spacious locker rooms and bathroom facilities.  All skaters are welcome to use our rental skates for no additional fee for the entire week of the camp.
