SPRING CLUB  SERIES IV SNOWPLOW SAM TOT LESSONS

Lesson Dates and Times:

TUESDAYS** For Tots ages 3-6
Spring Series IV dates: (8 weeks/$195 Special Club Price of $100) 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19
Spring Series V dates: (8 weeks/$195 – out of Club Season-everyone pays full price) 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7, 6/14

THURSDAYS** For Tots ages 3-6
Spring Series IV dates: (8 weeks/$195 Special Club Price of $100) 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/21

Tuesday and Thursday class offerings are for all tot and Adult Basic Skills levels from Intro to the Ice and Parent & Me to Snowplow Sam 1-4 and Adult 1-6. Fee includes rental skates and a 30 min. lesson, warmup time before the lesson and practice time after.  For Tues/Thurs lessons, please arrive by 12:20 the first day and you will get your exact lesson time for the remaining weeks on the first day. Skaters should dress warmly with a jacket, gloves, hat and mandatory helmet/bicycle helmet for skaters under age 7. WSC is not able to offer makeup sessions or refunds for missed classes. 

Our Tots Learn To Skate Program follows the USFS “Snowplow Sam” Curriculum, which is designed for skaters ages 3-6. The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help the preschool-age skater develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice.

Snowplow Sam is a big, fuzzy polar bear who loves to skate. Time with Snowplow Sam will allow preschool children become comfortable on the ice.

Snowplow Sam 1 

• A. Sit and stand up with skates – Off Ice
• B. Sit and stand up with skates – On Ice
• C. March in place
• D. March forward – 8–10 steps
• E. March, then glide on two feet
• F. Dip in place

Snowplow Sam 2

• A. March followed by a long glide
• B. Dip while moving
• C. Backward walking, toes turned inward, shifting weight (4-6 steps)
• D. Backward wiggles (six in a row)
• E. Forward swizzles (2-3 in a row)
• F. Beginning snowplow stop motion (in place or holding barrier)
• G. Two-foot hop in place (optional)

Snowplow Sam 3

• A. Forward skating (8 – 10 strides)
• B. Forward one-foot glide, 2 times the skaters height (R and L)
• C. Forward swizzles (4 – 6 in a row)
• D. Backward swizzles (2 – 3 in a row)
• E. Moving forward snowplow stop (two foot)
• F. Curves

Snowplow Sam 4

• A. Forward skating
• B. Backward two-foot glide, length as skaters height
• C. Backward swizzles (4 – 6 in a row)
• D. Rocking horse (1 forward and 1 backward swizzle, repeat twice)
• E. Two foot turns from forward to backward, in place (both directions)
• F. Two foot hop, in place

In addition to Snowplow 1-4 classes, WSC also offers the following levels of tot classes on Tuesday and Thursday only:

Parent and Me 
Bring your Favorite Grownup & Learn to Skate!  Ages 2.5-6 years.
Attire:  Snowsuits, Helmets,  Mittens/Gloves, Boots.  Rental skates provided 

Intro To The Ice
A Fun and Interactive class for Toddlers focused on developing a young skater’s comfort level on ice.  Skaters will feed into Snowplow 1 as they become ready for skates.  Ages 2.5-5 years.  NO SKATES NEEDED.         

Adult 1

• Falling and Recovery
• Forward Marching
• Forward two-foot glide
• Forward swizzles

• 2 foot turns in place

Adult 2

• Forward stroking
• Forward 1⁄2 swizzle pumps on a circle

Adult 3

• Forward outside and inside edges on a circle (clockwise and counter- clockwise)
• Forward crossovers, (clockwise and counter- clockwise, 5 consecutive)
• Backward 1-foot glide, right and left, one time skater’s height
• Backward snowplow stop
• Backward 1⁄2 swizzle pumps on a circle (4 to 6 consecutive, clockwise and counterclockwise)
• Moving forward to back- ward & backward to forward 2 foot turn
• Beginning 2 foot spin

Adult 4

• Forward edges on circle
• Backward edges on circle
• Backward crossovers
• Back chasses on circle
• Forward outside 3-turns
• Forward outside swing rolls
• Inside pivots
• Back cross to landing position

Adult 5

• Forward & Backward Crossovers in Figure 8 pattern
• Forward outside to inside change of edge on a line
• T-stop, R or L
• Forward inside 3 turns, R&L
• Continuous forward progressive chasse sequence, (clockwise and counterclockwise)
• Beginning 1 foot spin

Adult 6

• Forward inside Open Mo- hawk, both directions
• Forward Perimeter Stroking with crossover end patterns
• Alternating backward crossovers with two-foot transition
• Backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glide (landing position)
• Lunge
• Spiral
• Bunny Hop (Optional)
• Footwork sequence: (3-5 forward crossovers to an inside Mohawk, 3-5 back- ward crossovers, step forward inside the circle and repeat)
